Goals when Teaching Math

Some goals when teaching mathematics should be: (in no special order)

1) Improve deductive reasoning skills;

2) Improve the ability to generalize;

3) Improve the ability to extend procedures to new situations;

4) Develop problem solving strategies;

5) Develop communication skills in mathematics;

6) Develop an appreciation for mathematics;

7) Develop an understanding of the structure of number systems;

8) Develop a knowledge of basic mathematics facts.
